Mrs. Elvira M. Walker
September 19, 1938 - March 30, 2022
Mrs. Elvira Margie Walker, 83, of Gaston, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022. Born on September 19, 1938, in Panama City, Panama, she was a daughter of the late Marciana Perez. Elvira was a long-time member of Columbia Baptist Temple. She was a proud, devoted Christian and enjoyed serving the Lord. Elvira was a loving wife to James Wesley Walker for 32 years. She was someone who never met a stranger and cared deeply for others. Elvira will be dearly missed for her upbeat and down to earth spirit. She never failed to light up every room she walked into. Elvira was glamorous and had timeless beauty; she loved getting dolled up and spending the day shopping or dining out. In her free time, she went country line-dancing, bowling, crafting, and gardening. An avid animal lover, she especially loved birds, particularly hummingbirds, and made sure to always keep the birdfeeder full. She shared her love through laughs and enjoyed music. Her servants heart led her to serve as a seamstress at Fort Jackson Base where she was also a member of the NCO Club. Along with sewing, she had a talent for crocheting and handmade most of her daughter and granddaughter’s clothing. Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Nicol Walker Hoffman (Michael); granddaughter, Brianna Marie Walker; step-son, Ronald Walker (Jennifer), step-daughter, April Dell (Dave), and their children; niece, Kelli Williams (TJ); and nephew, Jeff Walker (Donna). In addition to her husband and mother, she is preceded in death by brother and sisters-in-law, George, Laura, and Delores; along with step-son, Rory Walker. The family would like to give special thanks to all who took such wonderful care of Mrs. Walker. Specifically, Moncrief Hospital of Fort Jackson, Prisma Health Baptist Hospital Emergency Department, Health Source Rehab, Amedisys Home Heath and Hospice Care, Kindred at Home Medical Equipment Team, Gaston Pharmacy, and most importantly, to God. The funeral service for Mrs. Walker will be held at 2 o’clock on Sunday, April 3rd, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC 29223. Burial will follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, 2603 Two Notch Road, Columbia, SC 29204. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o’clock, Saturday evening at the funeral home. In honor of Elvira, the family has requested all guests wear your favorite spring color or purple to represent dementia awareness.
