February 17, 1954 - December 21, 2021
Frances Kathryn “Kathy” Yoder, 67, of Columbia, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, December 21, 2021. Born on February 17, 1954, in Goldsboro, NC, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Harold Monroe and Selena Kime Yoder. Although dealt a mean hand in early life, Kathy’s feisty, determined spirit led her to seek out and experience much fulfillment. She was a devoted former member of St. Andrews and Gethsemane Lutheran Churches and participated in church activities whenever possible. Kathy especially loved her family, church and friends. She found much pleasure in singing, playing the autoharp, crafting, and spent many hours creating needlepoint and latch hook pieces. Kathy enjoyed reading and was an avid letter writer. She adored attending summer camp sessions at Lutheridge (Arden, NC) and traveled on frequent camping adventures with her parents. Family and friends remember Kathy as being a sweet, loving soul who cared deeply about others, gave great hugs and made folks smile. Survivors include brother, Dr. Eric M. Yoder (Claire); sister, Mary Ann Watson (Jeff); nephews, Glenn Yoder (Genevieve), Joshua Yoder (Krystina), and Jeffrey O. Watson; nieces, Emily Yoder Wilcox (James), Maggie Stewart (Brian), and Jessie Yoder; great nephews and nieces, Owen, Jonathan, Jordyn, and ‘Nika. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Craig Yoder. The memorial service for Ms. Yoder will be held at 12 o'clock on Saturday, February 26th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC 29223. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service beginning at 11 o'clock. Due to the COVID-19 virus, the family kindly requests all guests wear a mask and follow CDC guidelines.
