Born in Pontiac, SC, on December 1, 1933, he was a son of the late Gillyard Percival Monroe, Sr. and Pearl Goff Monroe. He was a graduate of Dentsville High School and served in the US Army. He retired from DuPont De Nemours, Inc. after 35 years. In addition to working at DuPont, he loved farming and raising cows. Most days you would see him on his tractor when not working at DuPont. Mr. Monroe was a member of Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church. He loved his Lord, family, church family, and friends. For years, he provided for his family to gather at his home for the Monroe Family Reunion over July 4th. It was always a fun time for the family to be together and catch up with one another. In 2009, he received the Conservation Achievement Award from the Richland County Conservation Commission for protecting valuable natural resources and rural landscapes in Richland N.E. Mr. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, and brothers-in-law, Beatrice and Thomas Brown, Beulah and Murdic Bowen, Oneida and Patrick Johnston, and brother and sister-in-law G. P. Monroe, Jr, and Virginia R. Monroe. He is survived by his sister Marian Monroe Brown and brother and sister-in-law John D. Monroe, Sr. and Barbara N. Monroe as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Love and thanks to Dr. J. Frank Martin, Jr. and caregiver Sabrina Hooker who loved him dearly. Also, to our family and friends for your prayers, calls, and visits during Mr. Monroe’s illness.
