George Anthony "Tony" Bissell, 53, of Columbia, died Thursday, September 8, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan Stewart Smith Bissell; his four legged children, Bullet and Skeeter; and in-laws, H. Bronson "Bronnie" Smith and Virginia "Gin" McGowan Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Humphrey Bissell and Betty Hunt Chapman Bissell.

Tony grew up in Columbia and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral as well as the St. Andrew's Society of the City of Columbia where he served as Steward. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management. Tony and his wife, Susan, owned Beulah's Bar and Grill in the Vista for 11 years. He was a brand ambassador for Behn of North American, enjoyed golf, was active in the Midlands Blues Society, and was an avid Gamecock fan (though he had good enough sense to marry a Clemson girl).

A service to celebrate Tony's life will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, September 10th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road, Columbia. Burial in Magnolia Cemetery in Charleston will be private. The family will greet friends prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. Members of the St. Andrew's Society are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society, 121 Humane Ln, Columbia, SC 29209; or to the charity of one's choice.
