SGM John Joseph Boron, US Army (Ret.), 85, of Columbia, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021. Born June 27, 1936, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Joseph Frank Boron and Cecilia Peplowski Boron. John was a long-time member of St. Michael Catholic Church at Fort Jackson and their fraternal family, Knights of Columbus. He honorably served in the United States Army and is a veteran of the Vietnam War. Following his career of 27 years in the Army, John was employed for 20 years at the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services. He earned his Master of Arts degree in Education from Pepperdine University. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Elvira “Vera” Boron; daughter, Susan (Bruce) Michalski; son, Joseph (Lisa) Boron; grandchildren, John (Kelli) Michalski, Michael (Elizabeth Swenson) Michalski, and Christopher (Kaylee McLendon) Michalski, Nicholas, Lauren, and Nathalie Boron; great-grandchildren, Caroline and William Michalski, Sophia Michalski, as well as Zoey and Annalise Allen. A private funeral service with full military honors will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
