John Thomas Delfino, 80, of Sumter, died February 6, 2022. Born July 14, 1941, in Norwood, Massachusetts, John was the son of the late Mary Delfino and the late Romeo Delfino. John retired from the United States Air Force, in which he honorably served from 1960 -1983. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked at Mack Truck Company until his retirement. He was a physically active person who loved & excelled in golfing, bowling and long-distance running, including the Boston Marathon. He always enjoyed telling jokes and talking to strangers every chance he had. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Yindee M. Delfino; sons Paul Delfino of Greenville and Thomas Delfino of Blythewood; daughter Teri Delfino of Columbia; grandchildren, Victoria, Anthony, Ashlee, and Michael Delfino; five great-grandchildren; sisters Rosemary Leonard, Pauline Etter, Ginny Brooks, and Doris (Dee Dee) Pattee; brothers Fred, Charlie, and Mike Delfino; and many cousins and nieces. The graveside service will be held at two o'clock on February 8, 2022, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC, with full military honors. A reception will follow at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC.
