SFC Joseph Roger Petrin, US Army, Retired, 87, died Sunday, September 2, 2018. Born on May 24, 1931 in Nashua, New Hampshire, he was the son of the late Astride Petrain and Odile Rivard Petrain. SFC Petrin was a Korean War veteran and proudly served his country for more than 20 years in the US Army. Following his retirement, he was employed with Rockwell from 1968 until his retirement in 1993. SFC Petrin was a longtime resident of Columbia, having lived in the area for more than 40 years.
Survivors include his wife of more than 65 years, Margaret "Mae" Pate Petrin; children, Joyce Wilson (Douglas) of Charlotte, NC, Roger Petrin (Debbie) of Prattville, AL, Ronald Petrin of Columbia, and Richard Petrin (Susan) of Elgin; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; as well as his siblings, Estelle Boucher, Simone Belair, Yvonne Lamy, Dorothy Parent, Richard Petrain, Gerald Petrain, and Ovila Petrain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Donald Petrain, Albert Petrain, Sylvio Petrain, Clarice Landry, Constance Michaud Sykes, and Pauline Lafavor.
The memorial service for SFC Petrin will be held 3 o'clock, Sunday, September 9th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock. A private burial with full military honors will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at a later date.
