Obituary

Joy Denise Frank Fink, 68, of Columbia, died Wednesday, August 11, 2021. Born February 2, 1953 in Ponca City, OK, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Osborne Frank and Violet Virginia Duncan Frank.

A member of Northeast United Methodist Church, Joy's strong faith was often expressed through her love for teaching others. She earned her Bachelor's degree in education from the University of Oklahoma and became an elementary school teacher, which she enjoyed until her retirement from Richland District Two in 2015. Joy loved spending time on the water, whether she was sailing or simply just enjoying the sights and sounds on the lake or ocean. She and her husband, Bob were deeply involved for years in competitive sailing in Oklahoma, and they served in various positions with the Central Oklahoma Sailing Association and the Central States Sailing Association, hosting regattas throughout Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas.

Joy was a devoted Christian, and she served others through music and children's ministries, and mission and service projects both at home and as far away as Kampala, Uganda. Most of all, Joy loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and all the adventures that they shared. Her enthusiasm for living, and her curiosity and love of learning never waned. Those who were blessed to know Joy are forever richer for the experience.

Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Riley (Sean); grandchildren, Benjamin Cash, Jacob Robert, and Lydia E. K. Riley; step-mother, Virginia "Ginger" Pugh; sisters, Kathleen Frank Young and Lana Susan Frank Nobles; brothers, John Howard Frank and Duncan Clark Frank; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. "Bob" Fink and by step-father, John D. Pugh.

A memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock, Monday, August 16, 2021, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel with The Rev. Robin Griffeth and Alston Lippert officiating.
