    Mrs. Karen Briggs Bailey

    May 9, 1965 - February 11, 2021

Karen Briggs Bailey, 55, of Blythewood, died on Thursday, February 11, 2021. Born in Columbia, SC, on May 9, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Melvin C. and Emma Ree Childers Briggs. Karen graduated from Spring Valley High School, class of 1983 and later retired from North Point Community Church. Following her retirement and prior to her recent battle with cancer, she worked as the office manager for Valley Beverage Company. Karen only found one difference in people she met; that being if they were left-handed or right-handed. She had the opportunity to serve on mission trips in Haiti and enjoyed her time with the Women of Joy. In her free time, Karen loved going on cruises, attending baseball games, and was a devoted Carolina fan by default. She was a true homemaker and loving person who considered everyone she met as family. Survivors include her husband, Harry Bailey; sons, John, Dallas, and Donnie Bailey; granddaughter, Annalyse Bailey; sisters, Roberta Newton (Steve), Debbie Cooper, Sandra Porter (Harold), Linda Torri (Tommy), and Paula Roberts (Dexter); as well as special friends who were family that cared for Karen, Stephanie Meetze, Paulette Drafts, Dawn Loner, Jennifer Bledsoe, Linda Larsen, Angie Bowers, Alexis McLead; as well as so many others and her nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Karen is preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. The service to celebrate Mrs. Bailey’s life will be held 3 o’clock, Wednesday, February 17th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. For those who wish to attend virtually, you may do so by visiting her tribute page at ShivesFuneralHome.com. Masks and social distancing are required to create a safe environment for all. In lieu of a register book, the family requests that you leave a memory or word of encouragement on her tribute page. A heartfelt thank you is extended to Prisma Health Hospice for their loving care to Karen during her recent decline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family at the following link: https://bit.ly/3u2UBLY.
