    Mr. Kenneth Bryce Haywood

    December 5, 1931 - August 15, 2021

    Kenneth Bryce Haywood, 89, of Columbia, died on Sunday, August 15, 2021. Born on December 5, 1931 in Randolph County, NC, he was a son of the late Edward Allie Haywood and Katherine Whatley Haywood. An active member of Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, Bryce served on various committees, attended Sunday services and Sunday School, along with cooking church breakfasts, and assisting on service projects. He served as a deacon, an elder, and as the facility manager for several years. Bryce graduated from Seagrove High School and went on to attend and graduate from North Carolina State University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. He was a Professional Engineer and practiced engineering all his working career. Bryce was a member of Richland County Master Gardeners. He taught about plants and worked at the Sandhill Farmer’s Market for many years. A US ARMY veteran, Bryce had served as a First Lieutenant during the Korean War. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Joanne Tysor Haywood; two daughters, Karen Bates of Moncks Corner, SC and Sarah Hudson (James) of Winston-Salem, NC; four granddaughters, Rene Hudson, Katy Batkins (Daniel), Jessie Ravan (Shane), and Laura Bates; three great-grandchildren, Owen Ravan, Caroline Ravan, and Merritt Batkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jim, and Sam. A memorial service for Mr. Haywood will be held 11 o’clock, Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Spring Valley Presbyterian Church, 125 Sparkleberry Lane, Columbia, SC, 29229. Burial will follow at 1 o’clock, at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service at the church. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. All are welcome to attend; however, masks and social distancing are encouraged to maintain a safe environment for all. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Spring Valley Presbyterian Church.
