Kristen Marie Hardin Carney, 62, of Leesville, SC, died on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Born in Milwaukee, WI on December 2, 1959, she was daughter of Karen Gail Haker Skadberg and the late Harold Skadberg.

An avid animal lover, she also enjoyed gardening and watching her favorite TV shows. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Kris knew that she was a giver. If you had a need and she could meet it, she would. If anyone came over and needed food, she fed them. If they needed a place to stay, she housed them. And of course, she always had a place for any dogs that she found or that found her. Even the birds were blessed by her giving spirit.

Kris loved to cook and had so many secret recipes. She was known for her delicious dishes. Kris was always content with the life she had. It wasn't fancy or elaborate and she was happy. She was happy doing the things she loved and being with family. A lot can be learned about life from the examples Kris set. Her example went beyond her own life into the lives of others. Though Kris was never one to ask for things, I think if there was one thing she would ask for, it would be that we all would live by her example, finding joy in the small things, being kind to those around you no matter the circumstance and appreciating the life we have been given.

Survivors include her husband, Irvin "Wayne" Carney; children, Rachel James (Chris), Samantha Hardin (Jeffrey), DJ Hardin, Amanda Frye (Phillip), and Johnny Hardin; grandchildren, Katie, Nicholas, Hailey, Riley, Lily, and Connor; siblings, Kari McLeod (Harvey), Joren Bartlett (Phil); along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

A memorial service for Mrs. Carney will be held at 4 o'clock, Saturday, January 15, 2022, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel. The family will greet friends following the service. All are welcome to attend, however, masks and social distancing practices are encouraged.
