Marjorie Anne Russ Trifon, 86, of Columbia, died on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, following an extended illness. Born on January 02, 1935, in Atlanta, GA, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Russ and Naomi Lifchez Russ. Ms. Trifon was an established English teacher, having taught high school as well as college in career a that spanned 25 years. She had attended University of Georgia, University of South Carolina, and The John Hopkins University. During her college years, Marjorie was a member of the sororities PHI BETA KAPPA, ALPHA KAPPA GAMMA, and TAU EPSILON PHI. Marjorie enjoyed experiencing all that life had to offer. She was an artist, seamstress, gardener, dancer, and gourmet cook. Marjorie was an extensive traveler, having visited Southeast Asia, Western and Southern Europe, Canada, Mexico, the Middle East, and the Caribbean. She even led tours through Europe. Due to her extensive travels, Marjorie also lived in various places along the East and West Coast, along with the South, before making South Carolina her home. Marjorie was also very proud of her faith and attended Beth Shalom Synagogue. The graveside service for Ms. Trifon will be held at 11 o’clock Tuesday, October 19th, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7600 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
