    Mr. Robert Parks Kapp, Jr.

    August 1, 1940 - March 21, 2021

Robert Parks Kapp, Jr., 80, of Columbia, died Sunday, March 21, 2021. He was born in Columbia, SC, to Robert Parks Kapp, Sr. and Emma Copeland McCrary. As a young man, Bobby earned his Eagle Scout award. He was a graduate of Clemson University where he earned a B.S. degree in Dairy Science in 1962. There, he was an early member of Sigma Alpha Zeta fraternity. Bobby and his wife, Mary Price, lived in Germany from 1962-1964 while he served as a Lieutenant in United States Army. After starting in the family’s dairy business, Edisto Farms Dairy, he worked for Coburg Dairy in Charleston, SC. He returned to Columbia and enjoyed a long career in commercial real estate with McTeer Real Estate which ultimately became Edens & Avant (now EDENS). Bobby was a lifelong member and President of The Columbia Rotary Club and served on the boards of Still Hopes, Richland Library, the Building Committee of the Richland Library, and Board of Visitors at Clemson University. In addition, he was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral and served as an usher for many years. Bobby enjoyed golfing, Clemson football, holding court and telling stories at Kapp family reunions and many other venues. He was a member of Pine Tree Hunt Club, The Columbia Ball and Forest Lake Club. Bobby survived four unrelated cancers and was undergoing treatment for his fifth. He was to ring the bell last week for his last treatment. Never complaining, he marched ahead in order to beat the odds. He is survived by his children, Robert Parks “Bo” Kapp, III (Denise Kapp), Mary Copeland Kapp (John Renner); grandchildren, Robert “Parks” Kapp, IV, Hannah Elizabeth Kapp, Mary Sophia Hopes Renner, Emma Bailey Renner; siblings, Lloyd M. Kapp (Jane Alan), Jane C. Kapp Timmons (Joseph), John Michael Kapp (Bonnie), Thomas L. Kapp (Helen) and Woodman C. Kapp (Cindy); numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his best blessed friend, Norma Crosswell Cunningham. In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mary Price Beckman Kapp. A private family service will be held at 10 o’clock on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia, South Carolina. You may join the family by viewing a live stream of the service on the church website (www.trinitysc.org) or at www.shivesfuneralhome.com. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Cathedral Foundation, 1100 Sumter Street, Columbia, SC 29201; Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community, P.O. Box 2959 West Columbia, SC 29171; or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
