Mr. Ronald Robert Van Tine Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Ron grew up in Tottenville, Staten Island, New York where he attended Our Lady Help of Christians School and Tottenville High School. He moved to the Parlin section of Sayreville, New Jersey in June, 1988 and lived there for thirty years. In January 2018, he moved to Lake Wateree in Ridgeway, South Carolina. Ron served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard as an electrician on light ships and buoy tenders, stationed in Iwo Jima, Japan, and was a member of the Honor Guard. Following his discharge, he worked for some time as a photographer technician, then as a mechanic, and finally as a heavy equipment mechanic for New York City Sanitation for twenty-five years before retiring in 2002. During this time, he served as Union Representative for several years and supported the aftermath of 9-11 at the Staten Island landfill. Following his retirement, he worked part-time for five years as a Site Coordinator for Arts and Education Center. Ron served on the Sayreville School District Board of Education for seven years. He was actively involved in supporting the Sayreville War Memorial High School Marching Band for ten years, during which time he acted as president of the Band Parents Association for several years. He also marched as a member of the Blackhawks Drum and Bugle Corp. In his spare time, Ron was a zealous reader and an avid fan of Superman and Marvel comic characters. He enjoyed building, detailing and collecting figure models, was a member of the Central New Jersey Plastic Model Club as well as being actively involved with other model groups and trade shows. He was a photography enthusiast and was a contributing cover photographer for Kitbuilders Magazine. Ron was pre-deceased by his parents, Richard Charles Van Tine and Gloria Louise (Cassin) Van Tine and his siblings, Charles Van Tine, Richard Van Tine, and Kenneth Van Tine. He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-nine years, Dana; his loving children, Cheyenne (Van Tine) Mangione and Son-in-law Chuck Mangione, and Joel Van Tine and Daughter-in-law Claire Van TIne; grandchildren, Connor Van Tine, Charlotte Van Tine, and Haylee Mangione; siblings, Patricia (Van Tine) Roman, Mark Van Tine and Keith Van Tine; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ron’s family wishes to convey their sincere appreciation for the numerous condolences, commentaries and memories that have been shared by those who knew and loved him.
