Scott David Brewer, 58, was born in Anchorage, Alaska, August 23, 1961. Because of his birthplace, Scott always thought that he was an Eskimo. After Alaska, Scott was a lifelong resident of Columbia (Trenholm Acres).
Scott attended Richland School District 2, graduating in 1980 from Richland Northeast High School. He was a skilled craftsman in sheet metal work, and he was also a certified welder. One of his biggest accomplishments was learning to make a square-to-round, which made his mom very proud. She told everyone! He was employed by Maximum Air Flow in Columbia for thirty plus years.
Scott's passions in life were his love of fishing, gardening and landscaping. He also enjoyed cooking, especially after he mastered the art of biscuit making- creating them just like his mom's biscuits!
Scott was a member of New Spring Church, where he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior on his 53rd birthday. He was often seen welcoming church goers performing his duties as a member of the Parking Lot Ministry. He enjoyed guiding in people's cars, usually wearing his Mickey Mouse hands.
Scott is survived by his loving mother, (He was her baby!) Mary S. Brewer of Columbia; sisters, Robin Branham (Walter) of Columbia and Kimberly Branham (Dale) of Blythewood; brother, Mark Brewer of Columbia; his K-9 companion, Bubba; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Sgt. George M. Brewer and his nephew, Brandon Kistler.
The family is very grateful to the staff of Prisma Health Richland and their Hospice Team for the compassion shown to Scott and family during the last two weeks.
A memorial service for Scott will be held 2 o'clock, Sunday, May 3rd in the parking lot of New Spring Church Campus, 657 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29210. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. A livestream is available by visiting
