Obituary

Stanley Wayne Whittington, 70, of Elgin, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022. Born on June 17, 1952, in Columbia, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Wendell White Whittington Sr. and Josephine Anderson Whittington. Wayne was a long-time, dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Blythewood. He was a humble servant of God and lived his life serving his Savior. A caring, Godly man, he touched and blessed the lives of many. His genuine love for helping others led him to volunteering within the church and for Harvest Hope Food Bank.

Wayne was the loving husband to Denise Rahn Whittington for 31 years. He was a student in the graduating class of 1970 from AC Flora High School, where he played as football quarterback. Wayne earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina and pursued a career in Architectural Sales. Throughout his successful career, he worked for T & T Sporting Goods and Carolina Ceramics Brick Company until becoming co-owner of The Exum Company. Once the company sold, he returned to Carolina Ceramics and retired in 2012.

Wayne was a true outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking. He was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan, a skilled pool player and golfer and enjoyed traveling the world. Although, his greatest passion in life were his grandchildren. He took great pride in being a grandfather and spending time with his family. Wayne is fondly remembered for his goofy personality and kind heart.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, April Gadsden (Heyward); grandchildren, Grant, Mackenzie, Bryson, and Kyler; sister, Kathy W. Upton (Joseph); brother, Wendell Whittington, Jr.; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude toward Harmony Memory Care and Prisma Hospice for the exceptional attention, love, and care given to Wayne. A special thanks to the many dear friends who supported them, especially Steve and Debby Harden and Greg and Lynn Robertson as well as the Cobblestone Senior Men's Golf Group for the priceless memories and for putting up with Wayne's shenanigans throughout the years.

The memorial service for Wayne will be held at 2 o'clock on Tuesday, November 29th, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 90 Boney Road, Blythewood, SC. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
