Thomas Arnold Jolly, 58, of Columbia, died Tuesday, January 25, 2022, peacefully at home after suffering with chronic Guillain-Barré Syndrome. Born October 23, 1963, in Charleston, SC, he was a son of the late Honorable Warren Howard Jolly, Sr. and Thyra Westelle Anderson Newman Jolly of Moncks Corner, SC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Charles M. Brown. Tom began his love of serving others in Boy Scouts where he spent many years as a camp counselor. He admired his father, working hard to emulate his work ethic, compassion, and empathy for others. Following high school, Tom started a construction business in Charleston where he built apartment complexes and renovated buildings. He left this to attend and graduate from The University of South Carolina where he met Amy. Tom served as a building official with The City of Columbia for 22 years sharing his building knowledge and wisdom with many. Tom was a devoted husband who celebrated 20 years with his loving wife. They shared their joy of bringing out the best in others and serving any way they could. Their many family adventures included traveling, camping, and working collaboratively to invest in creating a beautiful life by enhancing the value of all they touched. He adored his daughter with whom he shared a passion for music, a unique and amusing humor, and a true connection for enjoying water sports including surfing and skiing. He was active in her Girl Scout accomplishments, passing on his appreciation for scouting and service. He was a wonderful friend to all who had the opportunity to know him. Tom’s favorite place was the lake where he fished and spent time on the water with family and friends. Stories of motorcycles and fast cars, blown motors, boats that caught fire and his high-octane drive are abundant. He was known for his constant humor, always joking, and entertaining. Many describe Tom as a great guy and an awesome friend who was full of life. Survivors include his wife, Amy Estingoy Jolly; Daughter, Courtney Greer Jolly of Columbia; sisters, Cathy Brown of Columbia, and Elizabeth J. Hager (Bill) of Hampton, SC; brothers, Warren Howard Jolly, Jr. of Ruidoso, NM, Mark D. Jolly (Teresa) of Fort Mill, SC, and Russell B. Jolly of Columbia; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o’clock Sunday, January 30, 2022, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel. The graveside service for Tom will be held at 1 o’clock Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at St. John’s Baptist Church Cemetery, 1142 Sugar Hill Dr., Moncks Corner, South Carolina 29461. In his early years, Tom connected with the brothers at Mepkin Abbey through scouting campouts and activities.
