Vickie Chain Deese, 67, of Lexington, died Thursday, September 21, 2017. Born August 15, 1950 at Fort Hood, TX, she was a daughter of the late Grady Newton Chain and Bonnie Mae Bond Chain. Vickie was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Vickie grew up in a military family and lived in Texas, Georgia, Washington and California before they settled in her parent's home state and moved to Gulfport, MS. It was there she met a Navy Seabee by the name of Frank Deese. After a three month courtship they were married on April 10, 1969. Vickie was a mother to three loving daughters and was known as "Mamaw" to four adoring grandchildren. She was an avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia, enjoyed crafts and was a gifted painter. Vickie was in her element in the kitchen and passed along her passion for good food to her grandchildren. She loved cooking for others and spent countless hours feeding family and friends. There were no strangers in her kitchen.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Frank Deese; daughters, Rachel Dyer (Bill), Wendy Deese, and Bonnie Garren (Abe); Grandchildren, Brandon Dyer (Carrie), Jackson Dyer, Emma Dyer, and Stella Garren; and her beloved Pomeranian, Harley. She is also survived by her siblings Don Chain (Brenda) of Biloxi, MS; Peggy Crawford (Sam) of Madisonville, KY; Barry Chain (Pam) of Long Beach, MS; in addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Ross A. "Rusty" Chain (Margaret).
A funeral service will be held 11 o'clock, Tuesday, September 26th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, with Pastor Elton Dunbar officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 o'clock.
