Mrs. Willie Mae Hinson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Willie Mae Hinson, 100, of Columbia, died on Sunday, June 5, 2022. Born on July 30, 1921, in Mercer County, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late William M. Bunton and Augusta Ann Wylie. Mrs. Hinson was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and later Union United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing cards. She spent her career as a beautician having been licensed since 1964 and working until 2017. Survivors include her children, Bill Hinson, Sr, Philip Hinson and Rachael Hinson; grandchildren, Billy Hinson, Jr., Tasha Hollman, Kim Gilfillen (Dennis), and Anthony Ross; great-grandchildren, Philip Hollman, Matthew Hollman, Duffy McDowell, Zackery McDowell, Amber Gilfillen, DJ Gilfillen, Brady Ross, Austin Ross and Shawn Ross; great-great grandchildren, Ayden McDowell, Bransul Gilfillen and McKenzie Gilfillen; as well as a special caregiver, Keith Bagley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Carl Hinson; son, Lewis Carl Hinson, Jr; daughter, Janice Ross; and daughter-in-law, Helen Hinson. The funeral service for Mrs. Hinson will be held at 2 o’clock, Wednesday, June 8th, at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC, with Rev. Steven Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1 o’clock.
