    Mr. Yates S. Dobbins

    May 5, 1933 - February 14, 2021

    SFC Yates Street Dobbins, US Army (Ret.), 87, of West Columbia, died Sunday, February 14, 2021. Born in Ellenboro, NC, on May 5, 1933, he was a son of the late Cletus R. and Olema E. Henson Dobbins. SFC Dobbins honorably served in the United States Army where he retired after serving twice in Korea and in Vietnam. He was the recipient of numerous medals throughout his service, including the Army Occupation Medal in Germany, National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. Later, SFC Dobbins was employed as a sales clerk for Hess convenience stores. In his free time, he enjoyed Cowboy movies and NASCAR racing. An exceptional mechanic, SFC Dobbins knew about everything mechanical related and often thought others should too. Survivors include his wife, Jessie Williams Dobbins; daughters, Gail Smith, Robin Brantley, and Donna Hunnicutt; son, William Sineath; grandchildren, Laura and Trisha; and a sister, Gladys Hollifiled. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Lee Dobbins; sons, Micheal Thomas Dobbins and Matthew Robert Dobbins; brothers, Riley, Clarence, Claude and Fred Dobbins; as well as a sister, Joyce Cabe. The graveside service with Military Honors for SFC Dobbins will be held at 10 o’clock, Thursday, February 18th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, with Rev. Joe Copeland officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 8:30 o’clock, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation to the nurses and staff of Pruitt Health Hospice for their care during the recent weeks. Memorials may be made to the Dementia Society of America, 188 N Main St, Doylestown, PA 18901.
