Obituary

Aaron Levi Johnson, 87, of Columbia, passed away and entered his heavenly home on Thursday, November 3, 2022. Born on March 1, 1935 in Chester, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Dillard McLean Johnson and Willie Mae Wager Johnson.

Aaron was a humble servant of God and lived his life serving his savior and sharing the love of Christ. A caring, godly man, he touched and blessed so many through his singing, piano and guitar playing, and his Christian testimony.

Aaron was the loving husband to Mrs. Margie V. Brazell Johnson for 67 years. The two met in church and were married in 1954 and shared a never-ending love for each other. Aaron and Margie were devoted, long time members of Alpine Baptist Church since 1962 where Margie was the pianist for over 44 years while Aaron played the accompanying bass guitar. They shared their passion of music together and were known throughout the community as talented musicians and singers. Aaron was deeply involved in the church, teaching the youth as well as the adult Sunday school class. In addition, he was a deacon and served in various leadership roles.

Aaron loved his country and proudly served in the United States Army. He had a passion for cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed car shows, fishing, and playing horseshoes. Aaron took great pride in being a grandfather and adored being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family and friends remember him dearly for his witty, loving soul and determination to make others laugh. He had a kind heart and found joy in putting a smile on the faces of those around him.

Survivors include his son, Steven Johnson (Beckie); daughter, Kellie Richardson (Rick); granddaughters, Lauren Morris (Brandon), Mary Catherine Johnson, and Haylie Richardson; great-grandchildren, Brandon Morris Jr. and Wyatt Morris; brother-in-law, Gerald Brazell; as well as many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Daniel "JD" Johnson.

The funeral service for Mr. Johnson will be held at 2 o'clock on Sunday, November 6th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. Burial will follow at Sonrise Baptist Church Cemetery (formerly Alpine Baptist Church), 4930 Alpine Road, Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 5 until 7 o'clock, at the funeral home.
