It is with a heavy heart we announce the unexpected passing of Alan Michael Atkinson, 38, of John's Island, SC, on January 2, 2026. Born on October 14, 1987, in High Point, NC, he was the son of Bernd and Deborah Atkinson.

Alan Atkinson graduated from Spring Valley High School and attended the University of South Carolina. He touched many lives in his multifaceted career with his sense of humor and unwavering spirit of perseverance. Alan enjoyed the outdoors, spending time at the beach and the mountains where he camped and hiked with family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf surrounded by beauty of nature and the comradery that he valued. Alan never knew a stranger.

Alan was a devoted father whose world revolved around his son, Jackson Atkinson.

Alan is survived by his parents, Bernd and Deborah Atkinson; his son Jackson Atkinson, who was the light of his life; his brother, Aaron (Amanda) Atkinson; his sister, Lauren (Fred) Bove; his aunt, Angela Lutz; cousins Kristen and Michael Lutz; nephews Dylan Atkinson, Blake Carroll and Jayden Carroll.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that all donations be made to support Alan's son, Jackson Atkinson. The family is working to establish a fund in Alan's honor to help provide stability for Jackson.
