Albert Caswell Broach, 83, of Blythewood, died Sunday, January 29, 2017. Born January 27, 1934, in Columbia, he was a son of the late Lewis Caswell and Vera E. Lowman Broach.
Mr. Broach grew up in Irmo, and graduated from Irmo High School. He married Emily Sharpe in 1956, and was immediately drafted during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Broach worked briefly for Carolina Life Insurance Company, and then made a career with General Electric, which became North American Phillips, and then Mepco electric, which he retired in 1990. Albert and his family also ran Broach's Nursery in Blythewood for 37-1/2 years. He was a member of the Blythewood Masonic Lodge, former President of Blythewood Lions Club, former charter member of Jamil Temple and a member of Scottish Rites. Mr. Broach was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church and served as Deacon Chairman of Trustees.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Broach is survived by sons, Albert S. "Steve" Broach (Paula), William "Bill" L. Broach (Penny), Randall E. Broach (Missie) all of Blythewood, and Freeman S. Broach of Elgin; grandchildren, Jessica Robertson (Wesley), Brandi Spivey (Justin), Michael Broach, Emily Broach, Brittany McGougan, and Lindsey McGougan; great grandson, Cooper Spivey; sisters, Lorene Brazell of Winnsboro, and Christine Campbell (Jim) of Lexington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy Curtis Broach, and sister, Evelyn Amick.
The funeral service for Mr. Broach will be held 11 o'clock, Wednesday, February 1st at Sandy Level Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Hanley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors and masonic rites. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia.
