Alfred Leroy Harvey, 94, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2017. Born in Calumet, Michigan, he was a son of the late Alfred and Ida Marie Jestila Harvey.
Mr. Harvey proudly and honorably served his country and retired as SFC after 20 years in the US Army. He served during WWII in the European Theater and was one of our Greatest Generation. In 1954, he met the love of his life, Helga and was married more than 60 years. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed his calling as a greeter.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helga M.F. Harvey; daughter, Helga J. Cohen (Steven); two grandchildren, Renee Mulholland (Michael) and David Cohen (Randie); and four great grandchildren, Joseph and Zoe Mulholland, and Harlon and Harper Cohen. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harvey was preceded in death by four siblings.
The funeral for Mr. Harvey will be held 9:30 o'clock, Tuesday, April 18th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Windsor Lake Ward. Burial will follow with full military honors at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
