Alice H. Holland, 99, of Columbia, died Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Born December 26, 1918, in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late William Pryor Horton and Delona Horton. She was a member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a native of Spartanburg County where she lived for the first half of her life and had lived in Columbia for the past 50 years. She was an avid bridge player. She loved the company of her family and friends, and in her later years has enjoyed visits with her great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, N. Bruce Holland, Sr. (Judy), Karen Holland Jones (Bobby) and Sam Townes Holland, III. (Janet); grandchildren, N. Bruce "Buddy" Holland, Jr. (Samantha), Melanie Holland West (Nick), Townes Holland, IV, Robby Jones (Leigh), Holly Godwin (Mike), Calley Jones and Colin Jones (Lauren White); and ten great-grandchildren: Claire, Alice and Robby Jones, Kayla and Kameron Godwin, Avett Jones, Grayson and Hunter West and Paxton Stewart In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holland was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Townes Holland; infant daughter, Janice Lynn Holland; as well as several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Mrs. Holland will be held 11 o'clock, Monday, September 10th, at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 North Trenholm Road, Columbia, with The Rev. Dr. Ellen Fowler Skidmore, officiating. Interment will follow at 3 o'clock, at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 500 Holland Road, Simpsonville. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock, Sunday afternoon at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel.
