Alice Irwin, 81, of Elgin, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 10, 2018. Born in Wilson, NC on February 5, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Walter David Barnes and Henrietta Mae Overman Barnes. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Irwin was employed as a retail salesperson with J.B. White's Department Store and as a seamstress with Stone Manufacturing. She was an avid reader, enjoyed scrap booking, tending to her garden, and cooking. Mrs. Irwin also enjoyed spending time with her family and her cat.

Mrs. Irwin is survived by two children, Lynn Sligh (Barry) of Elgin, Gary Register of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Kimberly, Stephanie and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Tieson and Jordan; as well as a sister and a brother. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

The graveside service for Mrs. Irwin will be held 2 o'clock, Friday, April 13th, at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Ave, Columbia, SC with the Rev. Richard Lyttleton officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
