Mrs. Alice Bigham Kalinowski's Obituary

Alice Bigham Kalinowski, 92, of Columbia, passed away at her home on Saturday, July 23, 2022. Born in Rock Hill, South Carolina, on January 30, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Harvey Bigham and Olethea Mitchell Bigham.

Alice was a true ray of sunshine. Regardless of whether someone knew her for 10 years or only 10 minutes, she touched everyone with her kindness, her sense of humor, her selflessness, and the genuine affection she felt for others. She was always ready to lend a listening ear or extend a helping hand to anyone in need. With a warm smile and her bright spirit, she could give comfort during the most difficult of times, even if she was experiencing difficult times herself.

Alice was very proper - she refused to sit in the front seat of the car when Daniel was courting her - but she also loved to have fun, to laugh, and often cracked a joke with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. When she was younger, she loved to go dancing and retained a love for music throughout her life.
In addition to her personality, Alice was a talented seamstress and cook. She mastered the art of sewing by teaching herself, and also enjoyed needlepoint, quilting, and even owned her own catering business with her sister. She carefully curated a mass of recipes curated to perfection, but family and friends remember her fondly for her famous blueberry muffins, sawdust salad, and the multitude of Christmas cookies she baked to give to friends and family.

Alice was the loving wife of Daniel Paul Kalinowski. The couple shared a long, successful marriage of 45 years together. Although the passing of her husband was not easy, Alice became a very self-sufficient widow. She was strong-willed, determined, and did all she set her mind to - including cutting her own grass at 87 years of age.
She was a dedicated member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church in Columbia. Throughout the years, Alice remained active in the church and community. She was involved in the council, president of the PTA, and participated as a den mother.

Survivors include her children, Daniel Kalinowski, Dennis Kalinowski, and Donna Kalinowski; grandchildren, Casey Campbell, Joshua Campbell, Roman Kalinowski, and Sevin Kalinowski; great-granddaughter, Thea Alice Campbell.

The funeral service for Mrs. Kalinowski will be held privately. Burial will take place at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill, SC.
