Allen Augustus Porter, 34, of Columbia, died Monday, October 8, 2012. Born November 12, 1977 in Columbia, he was a son of Gregory Allen Porter and Kathryn Hinnant Williams.
Allen was an avid surfer, hunter and fisherman, a dedicated Gamecock fan, and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church of Charleston. He served as a Senate Page for the late Senator Strom Thurmond, attended Wofford College and graduated from The University of South Carolina.
Survivors include his father Gregory (Gabrielle) Porter of the Isle of Palms; mother, Kathryn (R. Keith) Williams of Blythewood; paternal grandmother, Myrtle Gibbons Porter, Columbia; brothers, Charles Porter of New York, NY, Townsend Porter of Charlotte, NC, Pete Porter of the Isle of Palms, Austin Williams of Blythewood; sister, Ashley (Lonny) Jackson of Winnsboro; aunt, Carol (Joe) Webster of Columbia; uncles, Charles (Laurie) Moore of Evans, GA, Mark (Dee) Porter of Charleston; special cousin, Dale Piotrowski of Merritt Island, FL; as well as numerous other cousins and friends. Allen was preceded in death by grandfather, A. Ray Hinnant; grandmother, June B. Hinnant; grandfather, Charles Porter.
A memorial service for Allen will be held at 3 o'clock, Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia with The Rev. John Warren officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2 o'clock.
