Mr. Alonzo Edward Houseman, Jr., 73, of Columbia, SC, died on April 1, 2025. Born in Staunton, VA, on January 20, 1952, he was the son of the late Alonzo Edward Houseman, Sr. and Lovell Riggle Houseman.
Mr. Alonzo proudly served in the United States Army. Following his service, he worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative for many years. Mr. Alonzo was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Columbia and the NRA. He had a passion for weaponry and had an extensive survival gear, knife, and gun collection. In his leisure time, he enjoyed Sudoku and crossword puzzles.
Mr. Alonzo was a kind and caring man, who had a big, generous heart for helping anyone he could. He was a firm but gentle soul. Mr. Alonzo loved his family deeply. His children affectionately nicknamed him their "Superman", which continued when his grandchildren were born. He truly was their Superman by always being there for whatever they needed.
Survivors include his children; Amber Marie Houseman of Gaston, SC, Krystal Renee Houseman of Columbia, SC, and Aaron Michael Houseman of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Christopher J. Bressler of Columbia, SC and Kaitlyn Marie Bressler of Columbia, SC; and great-grandchildren, Annabelle Marie Bennett and Brady Austin Bennett.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Columbia, SC 29223. A private family burial will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery following the service in the chapel.
