Amber Elizabeth Cheslak, 97, of Beaufort, SC, went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 26, 2020. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on February 22, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Edward J. and Margie Beebe Ammann.
Amber was a 1941 graduate of South Hills High School in Pittsburgh, PA. During World War II she built airplane gliders in service to her country. After the war, she married the only man she ever loved, Gunnery Sergeant John N. Cheslak and remained a devoted wife until his death in 1984. Amber drove a school bus for thirteen years and then delivered Meals on Wheels for several more. She was the rock of the Cheslak family and sacrificed all the time and energy she had while staying in the background. Proverbs 31:10.
She was a loyal and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort in the Evening Circle for over five decades and gave generously of her time in many capacities as the oldest living member. She also was a member of Eastern Star where she faithfully played the organ at their meetings and installations for decades as well. In addition to the organ she played a variety of instruments which included the piano, ukulele, accordion, harmonica and the electric keyboard. She was still playing the piano for the residents at Sprenger Health Care two days before her passing. The Lord reserved a mansion for her in Glory at the age of 82, proving it is never too late to invite Jesus Christ into one's life.
Survivors include her sons, Scott E. Cheslak (Jan), and Mark R. Cheslak (Beth); grandchildren, Ryan Cheslak, Amy Vargas (Popi), Amber Cheslak, and Melanie O'Shea (Andy); great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Easton Cheslak, Ryland Vargas and Quinn O'Shea. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Edward and Jack Ammann.
Many heartfelt thanks to Sprenger Health Care and Crescent Hospice for the excellent care that made her time there so enjoyable.
