Angelo Aviles was born on May 25, 1969, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, and entered his eternal rest on February 27, 2024, at Prisma Health Trauma Center, Columbia, South Carolina.
Angelo was preceded in death by his parents, Fernando Aviles Deliz (father) and Rosemary Apello Weber (mother), and granddaughter Kasey Marie Aviles.
Angelo received his formal education in Isabella, Puerto Rico, where he graduated from Isabella High School.
At the age of 18, Angelo joined the United States Army, beginning his career as a soldier. During his service, stationed in Fort Wainwright, Alaska, Angelo met and married his current wife, Regina Hope Aviles.
After seven years in the military, Angelo embarked on a new career working for various Federal and State agencies, primarily overseas with the Department of Defense and the State Department. His final overseas assignment was in Mali, Africa, where he dedicated his time to working on human rights policies and violations within the region. Angelo was highly respected and admired by both Embassy personnel and Mali government officials during his tenure as Region Support Officer.
Angelo was a proud supporter of the Nelson Mandela Orphanage in Mali, caring for 87 children. He frequently visited the orphanage, bringing essential supplies and ensuring each child received special gifts during holidays. Angelo advocated for cribs for infants in the orphanage, ensuring they had a safe and clean place to sleep and play.
Angelo's love for his family was paramount to him, and he cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He was a beloved friend, often referred to as a brother by those who knew him.
Angelo's legacy will endure through his loved ones, including his wife Regina, son, Fernando Aviles "Tony" of Clifton, NJ; daughters: Tierra Holden of Columbia, SC, and Cynthina Aviles "Cindy" of Puerto Rico; grandchildren: Darreon Riggins and Honesty Riggins of Columbia, SC; brother Anthony Aviles (Dorothy) Leesburg, Florida; sisters-in-law: Veronica Bell of Garner, NC, Marion Sass (Solomon) of Plainfield, NJ, Theresa Waller and Tiffany Blackwell of Garner, NC; brothers-in-law: Milton Fowler of Plainfield, NJ, Ulysses Ivey (Anna) Old Bridge NJ, Larry Fowler of Bronx, NY and a host of other family and friends.
The memorial service for Angelo will be held at 4 o'clock, Friday, March 22nd at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC. A private interment will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
