Anita Crapps Fairey, 86, of Columbia, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023. Born on January 14, 1937, in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Drova G. Crapps and Margaret T. Crapps. Mrs. Fairey was a lifelong member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Fairey was a graduate of Eau Claire High School and retired as an administrative assistant to the SC State Hospital Superintendent. Mrs. Fairey loved her family deeply and was a natural caregiver to anyone in need. Her love for the outdoors boosted her passion for gardening and fishing. Whether she was shopping, cooking, or playing bridge with her dear friends, Mrs. Fairey was known for her signature southern charm and greeting everyone she met with a smile.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa Leitner (Kleck); granddaughter, Margaret Kathryn 'Kat' Leitner; sister-in-law, Donna Crapps, and Jackie Hagan; and cousin, Mary Keith Watts. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fairey is preceded in death by her loving husband, Colonel Leewell E. Fairey Jr., and brother, Samuel Crapps.
The family would like to thank all of Mrs. Fairey's caregivers over the years, including the incredible team at Solutions: A Ministry of Still Hopes. Each caregiver will always hold a special place in our hearts.
The funeral service for Mrs. Fairey will be held at 11 o'clock, Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Extension, Columbia, SC. Burial will immediately follow the service at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
