Ann Carol Hall Price died Sunday, July 22, 2018. She was born September 9, 1939, in Florence, South Carolina, and was the daughter of the late William Ewing and Pansy Sloan Hall of Marion, South Carolina, where she grew up as a child.
Mrs. Price graduated from Marion High School in 1957. She was President of her Senior Class as well as Editor of the school yearbook. During her high school years she also played in the Florence Symphony Orchestra and was presented in a senior recital in piano. She obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano and Music History from Converse College in 1961. At Converse she was Editor-in-Chief of the college yearbook, the Y's and Otherwise, selected as "Who's Who among Students in American Colleges and Universities." and performed in both the Converse Chorus as well as the Spartanburg Symphony Orchestra. She was tapped as a member of Pi Kappa Lambda for academic excellence, and won three times the Dorothy Cornelia Matheny Award for having the highest grades in her music classes. She additionally was a Dean's List student.
Mrs. Price obtained a Master of Education degree from the University of South Carolina in 1980, and shortly after, founded The Price Group: Educational Planning Services, which she continued until her retirement in 2007, counseling over 3000 students from across the southeast in educational choices. She was the first educational consultant from South Carolina to become a member of the national Independent Educational Consultants Association and served several terms on this organization's Board as well as its Executive Committee, both as the organization's Secretary and later Treasurer. A highlight of Mrs. Price's career was being honored as winner of the Converse College Career Achievement Award in 1995. She was also featured in a front-page "above the fold" article in the New York Times, attesting to her national acclaim in educational consulting.
A life-long music lover, Mrs. Price was a member of the Columbia Philharmonic Orchestra Board, also serving as this group's Secretary for several years. A member of the Women's Symphony League, she served as Co-Chairman of Columbia's first Designers' Show House. Additionally, she had been a member of the Columbia Garden Club, the Candytuft Garden Club and a founding member of The Book Mark Book Club. She also was a founding member of the Converse College Board of Visitors and served several subsequent terms with that group. She loved to read, and one of her special interests was being a member and founder of The Book Group. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. A favorite activity was playing bridge with her close friends in the "Wannabees," as well as with several other bridge groups. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbia. She loved spending weekends at their family cottage at Pawleys Island and Prince George.
Ann Carol is survived by Robert Grant Price, her beloved husband of 54 years, in addition to her son, Robert Grant, Junior and daughter-in-law, Sophie Rebecca, of Halifax, Virginia and her daughter, Ann Sloan, of Black Mountain, North Carolina. She adored her five grand-daughters, Caroline Olivia, Lily Francis, Nora Ann, Charlotte Rosetta and Chloe Norah Price and is survived by her brother, William Ewing Hall, Jr. (Linda) of Chapin, South Carolina and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 o'clock, Wednesday July 25th at the family home, 120 Old Mill Circle, Columbia. A graveside service will be held 2 o'clock Thursday in the family plot at Rose Hill Cemetery, Hwy 76, Marion, SC. Memorials may be sent to Converse College School of Music, 580 E. Main Street Spartanburg, SC 29302 or a charity of choice. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
