Ann Leitte Reid Long, 64, of Columbia, went home to be with her Savior, on Monday, October 25, 2021. Born on February 2, 1957, in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lauren Reid, Sr. and Rebbie Peake Reid.
Ann graduated from Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1977, with a bachelor's degree in education. She helped to provide a Christian education to many students in over 20 years of teaching. Her love for and connection with her students had a lifelong impact on them. She spent most of her teaching career at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church School in West Columbia, SC.
While being a teacher and mother of 4 young children, Ann returned to college to become a nurse. She graduated from Midlands Technical College in Columbia, South Carolina, becoming a registered nurse in 1993. She carried her ability to teach into her nursing career and served as a mentor and trainer for many young nurses. They all still strive to be ALR (Ann Long Ready). She was deeply loved and respected by her work family at Lexington Medical Center, where she worked for 29 years.
Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and mentor. Her greatest joys in life were her family and friends. Her friends truly were a part of her family. She loved planning many vacations with all of them, especially the annual beach trip. Becoming a grandmother brought Ann lots of joy, and she treasured all of the memories that she made with her grandchildren over the years.
Ann was well known for her wonderful cooking. Teaching her culinary skills and sharing recipes with others brought her joy. She loved to host social gatherings for family and friends, and she always made sure that there was plenty of delicious food.
Survivors include her husband, Robert E. Long, II; 4 children, Sara Kloke (Greg) of Columbia, Amy Travis (Brian) of Columbia, Eric Long of Lexington, and Stacy Long of Columbia. Mrs. Long is also survived by her 8 grandchildren, Daniel Kloke, Nicholas Travis, Katherine Kloke, Yasmin Dommer, Lydia Kloke, Samuel Kloke, Isabella Travis, and Evelyn Travis; as well as her siblings, Harriet Oster (Glenn) of Lexington and Robert L. Reid, Jr. of Blythewood.
The funeral service for Mrs. Long will be held 4 o'clock Friday, October 29th at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2920 Pella Avenue, West Columbia, SC with Pastor David Pfeiffer officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. A private burial will be held at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock, Thursday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC.
