Anne Newton Nates, 83, of Columbia, died on Monday, June 28, 2021. Born in Columbia, SC, on October 9, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow Miller and Laura Aughtry Newton. Mrs. Nates was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church and enjoyed being involved with the children's ministry, prayer room and other ministries at the church. She retired from the Midlands Center and loved the opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren and traveling to the mountains and beach.

Survivors include her sons, Allen Nates (Sylvia), of Columbia and Danny Nates (Debbie), of West Columbia; daughter, Donna Freeman (Chris), of Blythewood; grandchildren, Justin Freeman (Stephanie), Lauren McNeal (Evan), Jeremy Nates (Caitlin), and Jordan Nates (Lauren); seven great-grandchildren, William, Eli, Harper, Oliver, Aiden, Deacon, and Josie Anne; sister, Sandra Doolittle; brothers, Robert (Bob) Newton (Becky), John Newton, and Ed Newton (Mary Joyce). In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Jack John Nates; and a sister, Christine Newton.

The funeral service for Mrs. Nates will be held at 11:30 o'clock, Thursday, July 1st, at North Trenholm Baptist Church with the Rev. David Knapp and Rev. Joe Copeland officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church beginning at 10 o'clock. Burial will follow the service in Jackson Creek Baptist Church.
