Annie Ruth Shaver Columbus, 85, of Columbia, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016. Born in Goldsboro, NC, on May 31, 1930, she was a daughter of Maynard Arthur Shaver and Mosley Irene Parker Shaver. Mrs. Columbus was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for the past 40 years and a Ladies Bible Study, influencing the lives of many people, young and old. She was affectionately called Mama Ruth by the people whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her son, Philip Thomas Columbus; a daughter, Elizabeth Columbus Price (Jerry), all of Columbia; step-sister, Becky Johnson; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Shaver of Mt. Olive, NC, and Doris Edwards of Princeton, WV; brothers-in-law, Cecil Columbus of Mt. Olive, Sandy Dyer of Manchester, NH, and Jim Dyer (Ruth Ann) of Wake Forest, NC; grandchildren, Christopher Parker Price, Robert Neil Price, Reinee Price Peacher, Kelley Price Brown (Courtney); nine great-grandchildren; and many loved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Columbus was preceded in death by her husband, Christopher Columbus; a son, Steven Shaver Columbus; siblings, Tom Shaver, Bertha Shaver Manwell, and Hazel Shaver Hoogenboom.
The funeral for Mrs. Columbus will be held 3 o'clock, Sunday, April 24th, at North Trenholm Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Steve Cloud, Chaplain (LCDR) Danny Purvis, US Navy, and Chaplain Jim Dyer. Interment will follow in Memorial Gardens of Columbia. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Saturday evening at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia.
