Annie Laurie Cooper Varner, 89, of Columbia, died Monday, September 24, 2012. Born in Greenwood, SC on June 13, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Joseph "Josie" and Louise McFerrin Cooper. She had worked with Merita Bread Company. Annie was a member of the Edgewood Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Joan Willis of Columbia and Patricia Douglas of Cayce; grandchildren, Wanda Wiley of Cayce, David Woods of Irmo, Joshua Nance of Lexington, and Jacob Ross of Irmo; great grandchildren, Cody Cooper of Lexington, Lacey Merchant of Irmo, Heather Woods of Cayce, Katie Ross of Irmo, Collin Woods of Irmo, and Logan Nance of Lexington; great great child, Carson; sisters, Bobbie (Bo) Weeks and Florine McCoy, both of Greenwood. In addition to her parents, Annie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Varner; brother, Billy Cooper; sister, Gladys Wrenn; and honorary sister, Sally Railey.
The graveside service for Mrs. Varner will be held noon, Thursday, September 27th, at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 3302 US Hwy 25 North, Greenwood, with The Rev. Amber Floyd officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Wednesday evening, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
