Anthony Gerard Lanza, 82, of Columbia, died Friday, October 27, 2023. Born October 6, 1941, in New York City, New York, he was a son of the late Anthony Lanza and Eugenia Carnevale Lanza.
Mr. Lanza was employed by the New York Times for over 40 years, where he drove a tractor trailer delivering their newspaper from New York City throughout the upper state of New York. He enjoyed his job immensely and it brought him great joy to be behind the wheel of his truck every day of his career. Mr. Lanza adored his family and in 2016 he and his wife relocated from Ramsey, NJ to Columbia, SC to be closer to his nieces, nephews, and other family members. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter, collector of firearms, and was a proud member of the NRA. Mr. Lanza was an avid sports fan and growing up in New York, the Yankees held a special place in his heart. He was also a car aficionado who owned many Cadillac's throughout his lifetime. In retirement Mr. Lanza and his wife enjoyed travelling, especially going on cruises.
Survivors include his sisters, Gloria Ann Lanza-Bajo (Ted) and Geri Livoti (John); sister-in-law, Carolyn D. Gallagher; nephews, Anthony Livoti (Jill), Thomas Livoti, Vincent Livoti (Kim), Matthew Livoti (Christy), and Sean M. Gallagher (Amy R.); nieces, Tiana Lake (Cassidy), Christine Neely (Tom), and Elizabeth Bajo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Georgiana Demarest Lanza; brother, Michael Lanza, as well as his brother-in-law, James M. Gallagher.
The family will receive friends beginning at 10 o'clock Saturday, November 4th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia, SC, with a memorial service to follow at 11 o'clock.
