Mrs. Arlene Zucker 88, of Columbia, passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. Born in Brooklyn, New York on September 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Robert I. Litt and Lee M. Litt.
Mrs. Zucker graduated from James Madison High School in Brooklyn. She worked as an executive secretary and retired from Citibank Corporation. She relocated to South Carolina from New York in 2018 to be closer to family.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother (Grammie) and great-grandmother (GG). While her family was everything to her, she also sought to bring light to the rest of her world. She had a smile for everyone and loved to make people laugh. She would embarrass her children by skipping down the street but instilled in them a sense of wonder and appreciation.
Mrs. Zucker was creative and had many hobbies. She spent time crocheting, cross stitching, reading and playing the piano. She passed her love for live theater and music, in general, to her children. She also played bridge and was a formidable opponent in Scrabble. Her family has fond memories of the hours spent playing cards and other games with her. She was also a Girl Scout leader.
Mrs. Zucker overcame many obstacles in her life, such as raising three small children as a single parent and then losing an adult child in an accident. But her determination and zest for life helped her to live a good and happy life and to provide that for her family. She was well loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughters, Shari Neuberger (Robert) and Lisa Helfer (Andrew); grandchildren, Rebecca Glendinning (Daniel), Shayna Freed, and Jason Mohn (Shelby); 4 great-grandchildren; as well as many extended family members. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Robert Zucker; sister, Helen Pruden (Jerome); and niece, Jennifer Pruden.
The Graveside Service for Mrs. Zucker will be held at 2 o'clock on Sunday, September 8th, at Beth Shalom Arcadia Lakes Cemetery, 1401 Arcadia Lakes Columbia, SC, with Rabbi Erik Uriarte officiating. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
