Arnold R. Sherman

Arnold (“Arnie”) R. Sherman, 93, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on January 29, 1933, he was the son of the late Benjamin Sherman and Sylvia Rosenhaus Sherman.

Arnie is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Ceil Sherman; children David Sherman (Jessica Brady); Craig Sherman (Lisa Sherman); and Debra Tedeschi (David Tedeschi); grandchildren Rachel Sherman, Bret Sherman, Louis Tedeschi, and Daniel Tedeschi; as well as his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Arlene Rampell.

Arnie was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. After leaving the Air Force, Arnie married Ceil in 1956. They moved from Brooklyn, NY, to Queens, NY, and then to Dumont, NJ. Arnie worked as a salesman in New York City. He and Ceil spent many happy retirement years in both Lakewood, NJ, and Columbia, SC. Arnie thoroughly enjoyed and was immensely talented at singing, with a particular fondness for musical theatre and Frank Sinatra. He was always proud of his children and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 11:30 am, at Tree of Life Synagogue, 6719 N Trenholm Rd, Columbia, SC, with Rabbi Uriarte officiating. Burial and Military honors will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, at 1 pm, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC.
