Arthur "Art" S. West, 88, of Columbia, died on Thursday, April 11, 2024. Born on September 26, 1935, in Columbia, he was a son of the late James R. West, Jr. and Helen Christine Stiefel West. Art joined the US Navy and while serving his country met the love of his life, Mary Jane Flynn West, in Long Beach, CA. They would share 53 wonderful years together until her passing in 2014. Art received his undergraduate degree from Clemson University and later earned a master's degree from the University of South Carolina. From 1968 until 1994 Art was employed by the University of South Carolina primarily as Director of Admissions and finishing his career in student services. He was a parishioner at St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Columbia.

Survivors include his daughters, Deborah Petri and Julie Hicks; sons, Eric (Miranda) West and Andrew (Radley) West; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Chrissie O'Kelley. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, James R. West, III.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. West will be held at 12 o'clock noon on Friday, April 19th, at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 100 Polo Road, Columbia. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will be said following the service at Memorial Gardens of Columbia, 9301 Wilson Blvd, Columbia, SC 29203.

The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church sanctuary beginning at 11 o'clock.
