It is with the heaviest of hearts that we, his sons, announce the passing of our beloved father, Ashok Kumar Sangal, on June 3, 2025. He left this world peacefully, while enjoying what he loved.
Born in Dehradun, India, on September 25, 1949, our father was a man of remarkable intellect and unwavering dedication. His academic brilliance was evident early on, as he completed his high school education at the young age of 14. He went on to earn his undergraduate engineering degree and a Master of Technology (M.Tech) from Calcutta University. For nearly his entire professional life, Dad dedicated his talents to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), contributing to the nation's advancements in space technology until his retirement in 2007.
Our father was a devoted and loyal husband to our mother, Sneh Lata Sangal, for nearly 50 years. Their journey together was a testament to enduring love and partnership, and it is with great sadness that we acknowledge his passing just before they could celebrate their golden anniversary.
He was our cherished father, and a loving father-in-law to our wives, Charu and Richa. He instilled in us the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of education. His guidance and unwavering support shaped us into the men we are today. We will forever treasure the memories of his wisdom, his stories, and the quiet strength he embodied. He was also a proud and loving grandfather to his four grandchildren, Arushi, Diya, Zoey, and Rian.
Our father will be remembered for his sharp mind, his dedication to his work and family, and his gentle nature. His legacy of love, commitment, and intellectual curiosity will live on through all who knew him, and especially through us and our families.
A service to celebrate his life will be held at Shives Funeral Home at 7600 Trenholm Rd, Columbia, SC 29223 on June 5, 2025 at 2:30PM.
He is survived by our mother, Sneh Lata Sangal; us, his sons and daughters-in-law, Prateek and Charu Sangal, and Gaurav and Richa Sangal; and his four beloved grandchildren, Arushi Sangal, Diya Sangal, Zoey Sangal, and Rian Sangal.
Our dear father, Ashok Kumar Sangal, will be profoundly missed, but his spirit and the lessons he taught us will remain in our hearts forever. We find comfort in knowing he is at peace.
With all our love,
Prateek Sangal & Charu Sangal
Gaurav Sangal & Richa Sangal
