Barbara Dill Barber, of Columbia, died Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Born in Paterson, NJ, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Clara Gorman Dill. She was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church in Aiken, SC, where she had lived for many years, and attended St. John's Episcopal Church while residing in Columbia.
Survivors include her sons, James R. Barber III (Susan) of Columbia, David R. Barber (Diane) of Atlanta, GA, William Byron Barber II (Henrietta) of Greensboro, NC, Thaddeus D. Barber (Shadie) of Aiken, SC; daughters, Susan Barber Hipp and Elizabeth B. Ward (Toby) all of Columbia; grandchildren, Barbara L. Driscoll, Matthew R. Lawler, Anna Barber Marsh, S. Rezner Barber, David R. Barber, Jr., Katherine B. Moseley, Greer B. Pope, William B. Barber III, J. Walker Barber, John Watson Barber, Reeve H. Ballew, Elizabeth H. Shackouls, B. Calhoun Hipp III, Catherine R. Hipp, Thomas H. Hipp, Townsend B. Budde, James R. Barber IV, T. Gavin Ward III, Margaret R. Ward, Barbara A. Ward and Daniel S. Ward; and 13 great grandchildren; sister, Carolyn Dill Foster of Fort Myers, FL; and nephew, William L. Dill III of Old Lyme, CT. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barber was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Barber, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Diane B. and Joe Lawler; and granddaughter, Caroline Dill Barber.
A memorial service for Mrs. Barber will be held 11 o'clock, Saturday, May 31st, at St. John's Episcopal Church, 2827 Wheat St, Columbia, with The Rev. Father J. Fletcher Montgomery officiating. A private burial will take place at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church Cemetery in Aiken, SC. Memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 2827 Wheat St, Columbia, SC 29205 or to the charity of one's choice.
