Ms. Burton died Thursday, August 4, 2016. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Howard J. and Kathleen Derrick Nobles. She was a graduate of Columbia High School and a dedicated clinical nurse specialist at the State Hospital, Columbia for 33 years. Her co-workers say that she was instrumental in keeping their hospital retirement group together with occasional lunch dates.
She has been a life-long member of Reformation Lutheran Church, where her pastors and church family were the gold nuggets in her life. She served her church faithfully in many areas of church life, particularly in providing her now famous banana pudding at every meet and eat occasion. Her friends, her family, especially the "grands," were her heart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Burton; a son, William "Bill" Thomas; a grandson, Kory Kaiser; and a great granddaughter, Kendall Kaiser. She is survived by a sister, Sybil Nobles Long; a daughter, Sug Kaiser; grandchildren, Kristi Summers (Matthew), Kelli Kaiser, and Bill Thomas, Jr.; great grandchildren, Kaleb and Kolton Kaiser, Keelie, Kambell and Noah Summers, Kayley, Kaysey, Kaydey, and Kolby Thomas; nephews, Clifton Courtney, Jeffery Courtney; and niece; Carla Courtney; many cousins, and one uncle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church, Organ Fund, 1118 Union St., Columbia, SC 29201.
