Barbara Ann Sargent Case, 74, of Hopkins, died Thursday, March 29, 2018. Born September 16, 1943, in Exeter, New Hampshire, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Sargent and Evelyn Coombes Sargent.
Barbara's love for family and nurturing spirit was developed early as she left high school to care for her sister and brother after losing her mother at a young age. Shortly after meeting the love of her life, they married, adopted her young sister and began a family. When her husband retired from the Air Force and settled in Eastover, she began her career with Richland School District One as a bus driver's aide. She worked through the ranks from driver to supervisor. She retired from Richland School District One after 30 years of service in 2003.
Survivors include her children, Louise Case, Virgil "Tommy" Case (Angie), James "Jimmy" Case, Evelyn Case, Virginia Goodson (Marvin), and Lynda Case; grandchildren, Heather Cowart (James), Tommy Case (Cherri), Christenya Case, Alecia Case, Ian Burleigh, and Thomas Elmore; great-grandchildren, Alexis Case, Samuel McKee, II, Kailey Case, Savannah Case, Dawnyelle Alexander, and Anna Valle-Case; her best friend of over 40 years, Barbara Golightly; extended family member, Brenda McDonald; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Manning Case, Sr.; brother, Eddie Sargent, Sr.; and grandson, Richard B. Elmore II.
The funeral service for Mrs. Case will be held 2 o'clock, Saturday, April 7th, at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. The family will receive friends Friday evening, from 5 until 7 o'clock at the funeral home.
