Barbara Hill Cinnamon, 77, of Columbia, South Carolina passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Born on January 5, 1947 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Edwin Murphy Hill of Walnut Cove, North Carolina and Joy Jean Flynn of Walkertown, North Carolina.
Barbara grew up in Winston-Salem and graduated from RJ Reynolds High School. She thrived as a model and a ballet dancer, performing in the outdoor production of "The Common Glory" in Williamsburg, Virginia. While attending Virginia Intermont College, she performed with the Bristol Virginia Ballet Company, before meeting and marrying her beloved husband Philip Michael Cinnamon from Knoxville, Tennessee. They married on April 29, 1967 and moved to Columbia, South Carolina in 1969, becoming longtime members of Shandon United Methodist Church.
Barbara spent a career in the medical field as a nurse, working initially for several local doctors, BCBS of SC, and finally with Providence Hospital where she retired in 2009. Barbara enjoyed playing bridge, making delicious home cooked meals that the neighbors and relatives always enjoyed, listening to music and was always ready to cut a rug.
Barbara was an extraordinary mother who devoted her life to her husband, her family, her church, and all her many friends that became part of her now-celebrated life. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Philip Michael Cinnamon; her son, Philip Michael Cinnamon Jr. (Rosa) of Leesburg, Virginia; and daughter, Alicia Joy Buffum (Matt) of Columbia, South Carolina; grandchildren, Michael Thomas Cinnamon, Gabriela Cinnamon, Guy Buffum, Will Buffum, Olivia Buffum; and brother, Frank Hill of Kernersville, North Carolina; and sister-in-law, Janet Hill of Charlotte, North Carolina, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The service for Mrs. Cinnamon will be held at 4 o'clock, Friday, March 15th, at Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine St, Columbia, SC 29205. The family will receive friends following in Wesley Hall. Burial will be private. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
