Barbara Wylie White, 76, of Columbia, died peacefully at her home, Monday, May 29, 2017. Born in Columbia on August 19, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Heyward Wylie, Jr and Nellie Kirby Wylie. Mrs. White, a former member of Reformation Lutheran Church, was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked at the South Carolina Tax Commission and the South Carolina State Treasurer's Office.
Barbara was known for her kind, compassionate manner and was willing to help others in need whenever she could. She found true joy in her children and grandchildren who were constantly on her heart and in her thoughts. She had a memorable and contagious laugh that brought a smile to the faces of those she blessed with her presence. Barbara loved a good story, especially if it involved her family. She enjoyed watching television, reading, working in her yard and traveling to the beach.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Arthur "Skip" White; sons, Franklin Joseph Brown, Mark Delane Brown (Wanda), Bryan Ashley Brown (Sheri); step-daughter, Lisa Corrigan (Barry); grandchildren, Parker, Kinley, Aidan, and Austin; sisters, Gloria Mathias (Wayne), Jo Marlene "Marty" Lyles (Carl) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock on Friday, June 2nd at Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia.
