Obituary

Barry McClam Cannon, 80, of Columbia, died on Monday, August 12, 2024. Born on September 8, 1943, in Florence, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Clinton Carlisle Cannon, Jr. and the late Rhette McClam Cannon.

Mr. Cannon grew up in a military family and had the opportunity to live in Germany, Okinawa, and many stateside locations. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1967, where he earned his bachelor's degree in economics. He was a veteran of the US Army, having served for two years in Vietnam during the war. Prior to his retirement in 1996, he was employed as a Supply Chain Manager for the United States Army Missile Command Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Mr. Cannon enjoyed airplanes, automobiles, cameras, reading, and spending time with his family. He especially loved spoiling his nieces and nephews and their children. His family will remember him as a patient, attentive, caring, and generous soul.

Survivors include his brother, Mark Robert Cannon (June) of Columbia, his sister, Susan Cannon Robnett (Mark) of Lexington, and beloved nieces and nephews: Clinton Cannon, Katherine Cannon, Stephen Robnett (Jessica), Laurie Robnett Shoemaker (Jeruid), Timothy Robnett (Caitlyn), as well as all their children.

The graveside service for Mr. Cannon will be held at 12 o'clock noon, Friday, August 16th at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
