Barry Nolton Martin, 69, of Columbia, died on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Born on June 8, 1954, in Richland County, SC, he was a son of the late Alfred Nolton Martin and Patricia Jaco Martin. Mr. Martin was a graduate of Spring Valley High School and retired from the Columbia Fire Department as a Battalion Chief with more than 35 years of service. Following his retirement, he owned and managed Martin's Grocery and other rental properties in the Columbia area. One of his greatest joys was watching his "3 Amigos" who were Noah, Jonah, and Carlos. His main source of joy in life was in Jesus Christ and studying the word of God.

Survivors include his wife, Lendy Martin; son, Joshua Martin (Kelly); and his two grandsons, Noah Martin and Jonah Martin; as well as his sister, Gail and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service for Mr. Martin will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday, February 8th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext., Columbia. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Rd, Columbia. The family will receive guests at the funeral home prior to the service beginning at 1 o'clock.

He was a man greatly beloved and he will be greatly missed but we find comfort in knowing his earthly suffering is over and he is with the Lord.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Cruz, Randy Martin, Dale Hornsby, Charles Boone, Harry Tinsley, and John Hartness. Active and former members of the Columbia Fire Department are invited to serve as honorary pallbearers.
