Beatrice M. Swadis, 85, of Gaston, died Sunday, March 3, 2013. Born in Columbia on September 10, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Maggie Alice Hammonds Brazell. Beatrice worked with K-Mart for over 28 years, retiring as store manager. She had lived in Tennessee for 18 years, but returned in 2007 to be near her family. Beatrice will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel Swadis; son, Steven Strickland (Deloris); and daughter, Deborah White, both of Columbia; grandchildren, Tammy Gaddis (Melanie) and The Rev. Steven Strickland, Jr.; great grandchildren, Autumn Gaddis, Taylor Gaddis (Julia), Summer, Wyatt, and Xander Strickland; and three special friends, Beulah, Brenda and Gail.

The funeral service for Mrs. Swadis will be held 11 o'clock, Thursday, March 7th, at Shives Funeral Home, 5202 Colonial Drive, Columbia, with The Rev. Steven Strickland, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock, Wednesday evening, at the funeral home.
